A swift on the ground is always an emergency! Any bird that ends up with us has nothing left – no nest, no strength, often not even intact plumage. Every summer, hundreds of these birds arrive at the Swift Rescue Center in Frankfurt: chicks that have fallen from the nest, injured adult birds, swifts that need weeks of feeding, nursing and training before they can fly again. That costs food, medication, X-rays – and every year it costs us our sleep.
Here is how you can help: As part of “SpardaVereint 2026”, Sparda-Bank Hessen is awarding 30 grants of 3,000 euros each. In the animal welfare category, the five projects with the most votes win – and our rescue center is one of the entrants. Every vote counts, and you can vote every single day until 18 September, 12 noon.
This is how we presented our project at SpardaVereint
The Swift Rescue Center in Frankfurt raises young Common Swifts that have fallen from the nest and provides veterinary care for injured swifts and swifts found helpless. It also specialises in plumage damage. At the center, the patients are cared for around the clock with the aim of making them fit for life in the wild again.
Most of the swifts entrusted to us are very severely injured, and so the stay at the center often lasts for months that seem endless to our little patients. The costs of running the center, and especially of the food, always put us under great pressure – nevertheless, we firmly believe that swifts deserve a chance to live, to fly and to be free. And as long as there is still hope, we will continue to care for them and watch over them without compromise.
Our reward is the sight of a swift dancing in the sky, a happy bird that can fly again.
